About liver disease
Types of liver disease
It's important to remember that if you have liver disease you might not have symptoms. It is possible to feel well even if your liver is badly damaged.
If liver disease is not diagnosed and treated then eventually it can lead to liver failure and the need for a liver transplant.
However, the liver has an amazing capacity to regenerate. If liver disease is diagnosed before severe liver damage has occurred it may be possible to cure or control the disease and reduce the risk of needing a liver transplant. This is often through medication or lifestyle changes.
Liver disease can be caused by a wide variety of factors; including auto-immune and hereditary conditions. The three most common causes of liver disease are alcohol misuse, obesity and viral hepatitis. If you could be at risk of liver disease please speak to your physician for advice.
